A Rip Through Time series by Kelly Armstrong
It all started at the Jax Urban Book Fest 2026.
My booth sat next to the Jacksonville Public Library table and I kept looking over at Death at a Highland Funeral. It looked like historical fiction.
I love mysteries.
I love historical fiction mysteries.
That’s repetitive, I know. But dang, if the title and cover didn’t sing to me. I checked it out. It was mine for 3 weeks. Naturally, it sat on the table for nearly two of those three weeks after I discovered it was about a time-traveling detective. Then it took three or four tries to get started (life, you know how it is). After that, I was swept up in 1880s Edinburgh.
Now, unlike Outlander, which felt more like doom and gloom and all drama, A Rip Through Time had everything I loved in a novel.
- a sarcastic and brilliant female lead
- an equally understanding, forgiving female side character
- and for the love all things bookish, a handsome MMC of color with a dry, shy sense of humor who just gets it *le sigh*
My life was complete. I now own all the audiobooks and ebook novellas, as I impatiently await the next novel that comes out in May. And yes, there will be shelf trophies coming soon 😏.
